not that i should be riding and eating taco bell or anyother garbage food but sometimes late night thats all thats available. apparently you cannot get served a meal unless your in an actual car. I sometimes find a nice enough worker too hook me up but most of the time i get yelled at and denied food being drive thrus stay open later than the lobby. I feel like this is breaking the law or something. Its really not dangerous being cars should be going faster than 5mph through there anyway. any cycle lawyers on here? -

Yeah, I've gotten yelled at by Wendy's. You have to actually ride up to the window, so it mostly depends how nice the person inside is. They let motorcycles through. -

i think its a weight issue, if you don't pull up to the window, they don't know you are there -

the may be a problem but it's not the issue, it's that when they do know you're there they refuse your business. what sort of message is that sending to the public? -

I've been denied and yelled at at every late night drive up except for the Del Taco near my house.

I used to try this on my bmx back in the day. The big companies would never serve me but the little sketchy fast food places were always cool. I think it helps if you find a resturaunt where the workers just dont care enough to follow protocol. Nowadays I dont eat fast food because I know too much about the way its produced, ignorance was bliss my friends. -

honestly you can get away with it if you don't sit there at the glowing menu waiting for someone to answer. just roll up to the window and hit em up. they'll very rarely tell you to fuck off to your face.
i'm vegan so there's ain't a goddamn drive-thru in the world i'd be able to eat anything at but like 12 years ago i remember doing this a bunch of times at taco bell in D.C. and nobody gave a shit unless i stood there at the menu with no car. then they'd be like "sorry sir you need a car to use the drive-thru, have a nice night". -

^agreed. i'm not sure where you're from iron jaiden but a quick denial is common practice in my neck of the woods. i hear what greg's saying, i fully agree with spending my $ where it's appreciated but the situation isn't often other-option friendly.
once i even called arby's to ask when they close, 11pm. i rode the few miles and once i got there (starving and sick) i was denied because the drive thru was open until 11, lobby at 10. i couldn't believe it. -

A few years ago when McDonald's sponsored the RAAM even they wouldn't serve the drive through to anyone on a bike. EVEN one of the guys they sponsored. I have rarely done it over the years, but it seems like it depends upon the person who takes the order (at the window, not the menu) and your attitude.. I remember surprising them by pulling up to the window. Not to be sexist, but the younger girls working there seemed to be the easiest to work with. -

Honestly, it isnt that ridiculous... I hate to play the devils advocate but we have all seen the Above the Influene PSA where the little girl on the tricycle gets hit. Well next time that might not be a little girl on a tricycle, but a 22 yr old on his fixed gear at 2:00am
But seriously, you have as good a chance of getting served on your bike as you do walking up there. It really is just a matter of who is at the window. -

Yeah but dude if I'm gonna spend my hard earned at a place like TacoBell I might as well just buy the meat. Money goes to the same horrible shit regardless of what I'm eating there. I'm not vegan because I'm lactose intolerant or can't digest pork properly. I'm vegan cause I ain't about animals getting fucked over like they do. TacoBell = not where vegans eat. :)Posted By: cloud^agreed. i'm not sure where you're from iron jaiden but a quick denial is common practice in my neck of the woods. i hear what greg's saying, i fully agree with spending my $ where it's appreciated but the situation isn't often other-option friendly.

I'm from Washington, D.C. I think in my adult life I've literally eaten at a chain fast food place 10 times. I've been vegan for over a decade now and VERY deliberate about where my money gets spent. I wouldn't eat at a TacoBell if it were fuckin free. But funny enough I do remember riding bikes through the TacoBell drive through probably 8 of the 10 times I even ate at one of those places and getting treated like a goofball, but served for sure. -

Maybe along with a drive thru, fast food places could also have a "walk thru" of sorts, where it would just basically be a window outside where you walk up and order like you would at the counter inside. They really only close the lobby to save themselves the work of keeping it clean after hours, and since they are already willing to continue making food for people in the drive thru, this would not be much of a hassle at all. And of course the suits up high would love the potential profit, especially if their company was the first to do so. -

Hate to tell you all this because seems to me like many of you are city dwellers; but out here in the "fly-over zone" many of the "fast food" restraunts and the Mom & Pops have always been this way. Not the big timers like McD, Wendy's etc, but the small ice cream or burger joints have now and always have had walk-up windows. Many of them don't even have inside seating, you eat outside on a picnic table with maybe an umbrella overhead.. You order at the window, pay and get your food at the same window. If they are high-speed, they have a order window and a pick-up window. -

Honestly, I wish that I had that here in suburbia. I don't eat at corporate fast food places like those you mentioned, I'm just surprised that none (in my area at least) have done this. Isn't my fault my parents decided to live in fuckhole Folsom... I guess our lack of "walk thrus" or what have you are just a reflection of our society's obsession with car culture and declining fitness in general... -
