Are conversions safer than a track drop out? When the chain snaps, the axel can still be held in the frame. But in track drop outs the wheel can slip off.

Presumably you'll bolt the wheel to your frame.
  2.
    Ahhhh... another lickedwicked gem.
We'll just do this one in order:

    1) Track ENDS, not dropouts.
    2) They are called dropouts because when you loosen the axle bolt the wheel DROPS OUT of the frame. Hence if for some reason you were to loose your rear wheel's grip on the frame it would be a bad wreck either way.
    3) Your rear wheel grips the dropouts (or ends) by the pressure of the axle bolt. It is not held on by the chain. If your chain were to snap for some reason (an extremely rare thing) the wheel would not suddenly fly off the bike, you just wouldn't have a chain anymore.
    4) Dude, honestly, do you ask these questions just to get made fun of by strangers or do you really not understand the basics? I'm not asking to be mean, I just wanna know what kinda tone to use is all.

Lickedwicked's questions remind me of that coffee talk sketch on saturday night live. Do you guys remember that? Mike Myers was an older jewish lady and when she got "verklempt" she would suggest a topic for her guests to discuss amongst themselves. The topics were formatted just like a lickedwicked question.

Well it all depends. I have never had a wheel fall out of a track end. In rare circumstances on a horizontal dropout the wheel could possibly come out (if you are stupid enough to be running a quick release wheel fixed.) Most of the times if your chain breaks you will roll, or it will tangle in the wheel and you will go into the sickest bro down skid ever. Either way you win.
  4.
probably even if the wheels are bolted on.

Well if your wheels are not bolted on your an idiot.
  5.
good lord man you know people have had their chains fall off their chainrings forever. that doesn't cause the rear wheel to magically fly off the bike and put the rider into a coma.
lickedwicked you are a charming, albeit nearly retarded, individual. you gotta know these questions and threads are pure silliness. you'll get way better attention if you learn a thing or two and stop acting foolish.

excuse the straight talk but come on now.

You should think about it for a few minutes. Honestly, thats a real suggestion. Just sit down and think about the forces involved then use reasoning and common sense. You could probably answer 90% of your own questions.

I have never had a wheel come off a bike with no chain to hold it in. I mean, come awn! On a fixed gear bike the rear wheel is bolted on just the same as a FRONT wheel is- how often does the front wheel fall off?

It's filed under common fucking sense.

Are you retarded? I ask this with utmost sincerity, since I'm pretty fucking mechanically stoopid, but have managed to muster up enough brain cells (without consulting any documentation or web sites) to know that when you properly tighten down an axle bolt, the wheel isn't going to go anywhere.

this is why i JB welded the open ends of my track ends closed--i cant be bothered by tightening those stupid little bolts that come with my wheels (wtf are they for anyways, i mean really?). and besides if i ever need to take my wheel off i can just hacksaw the ends back open.

    right....?

First off chains hardly ever snap. When they do it's usually because someone doesn't know how to use a chain tool and center the pin properly.

The reason track end are open to the back is that if your wheel happens to get pulled forward it cannot exit the dropout. Most track won't let a bike on them if it doesn't have track ends.

licked your not retarded. you just wear a different type of helmet then the rest of us. seriously, dont ever stop asking questions, ever! your quest for knowledge is to be applauded. and i for one, could not go without the information i learn from your posts.

This did however deserve some straight talk, its common sense.
  14.
The difference between straight talk and insulting someone is that the straight talk is designed to help the recipient learn and formulate questions in the future, and the insult is designed to make the answerer feel good because he's not the one being picked on this time.

Lickedwicked doesn't know much about bikes. He can only learn by asking questions and trying things. His question is a good one if you don't have a bike to experiment on or look at closely.

Everyone starts off wrong before they get it right. So he made an ass of himself when he showed up. He's not being an ass now.
  15.
It's true lickedwicked does get a harder time than he deserves. This thread, while relatively new, seems old now and really does still count as one of his "bad old days" posts.
I dig the dude though. As much shit as he catches from us jerks he keeps comin back as sincere as ever. I honestly admire that quality.

Lickedwicked if you read this post we love yah dude. The instant beating you catch on this forum is just our way of hugging you through the internet.
