If your having problems posting pics of your bike, rename your pics.
It's a common problem... you will post someone else's pic.
  1.
That's why I always name mine something weird like "IntergalacticAbortion" or "ballsack999999".

You betcha. According to this, Windows XP permits a total 255 characters in the full filepath name; Vista permits 260. Here's an example:

    (server name)/C/WINDOWS/DOCUMENTS_AND_SETTINGS/(WEB_ACCOUNTS)/VELOSPACE/files/your_image_name.jpg

So, if the server's name was "foo", the total character count to get your picture up would be:
    3 (foo)+1 (C)+7 (WINDOWS)+22 (DOCUMENTS_AND_SETTINGS)+12 (WEB_ACCOUNTS)+ 9 (VELOSPACE)+5 (files)+19 (your_image_name.jpg)=78 characters.

I'm sure I've left out several layers, and the names I'm using are guesswork; but you get the idea.

The last time I checked, Windows permits 25 characters in the name of any individual file or folder; but I know that the filename you see isn't the filename Windows actually uses - that's why the built-in search in everything before Vista is so poor. Mac OSX permits at least 76 characters in a file name (i've just tested it), and I suspect it permits a great deal more. And I'd guess that's true of any Unix system: Linux, Solaris, BSD, whatever.

So, in theory, you could name your bike photo:

    My_extremely_awesome_bike_thats_really_WAY_radder_than_your_POS_bike.and_did_I_already_tell_you_how_much_your_bike_sux_and_mine_roolz-or_did_I-forget.anyway_like_I_said_my_bike_is_very_awesome_you_should_grovel_in_abject_obedience_you_pusillanimous_worm.jpg

That's 257 characters. You won't be able to see the full name in Windows Explorer or Mac OSX Finder (and by coincidence, it does cross the 256-thingy limit, which is a red line in a lot of computing operations), but you should be able to get away with it, if the Velospace server is running some variant of Unix (which I assume it is, as Drupal is the content management system).

The short answer is: Name your photos, name your photos, name your photos. More detail is better. And for now, don't worry about how long the name is - just remember, spaces are forbidden and punctuation marks other than _ - . are generally a bad idea.
