Are they any good? They have them for $20 each in the " bargain basement". Or is it not worth it just to save like $20?

    IRO Low Flange Hubs

Sure, why not? They are most likely IRO-branded Formulas, and that's a good price for them. Formulas are smooth enough and pretty tough.

And as this thread suggests, the IRO bearings can be replaced with Phil Wood bearings for the low low price of $5.20 each. So, you can build them up with these very inexpensive hubs, and then tootsie them up later on.

Now I'm thinking of getting a set just to have them around, even though I am not a fixed-speed guy...thanks for the heads-up!

No problem, and i think I'll buy some for myself, I need to build two sets of wheels.

Damn that is a pretty good deal. I wanna snag a set but I really don't want low flange hubs. Good stuff though.

Yeah I got that wheel built. I didn't learn how to true it though, as soon as I got the wheel built my dad pretty much took over in truing it, but ill make him show me soon.

I had a hard time getting the nipples through at first, since they are double walled I kept loosing them between walls. I'm sure this is pretty obvious, but the back of a nipple will screw into a spoke. So you screw a spoke into one and push it through.

The only way I can get better is to build more wheels, and I intend to do just that

Yeah loosing nipples is a tough lesson at first. I've had good luck with putting a dab of grease on the tip of the flat head that's going into the nipple just to keep it in place.

I just went to the Iro site to order the hubs and they have free shipping!

You can buy a screw starter at sears for about $9. It's like a screwdriver with a spring loaded tip that twists and holds the nippe until you get the spoke threaded.
