May seem like an obvious question, but what is the sticker on inside bottom of the downtube? Bike shop, maybe? -
- CommentAuthordanzap209
- CommentTimeJun 27th 2009
It's a Pleasanton, CA bike shop sticker... nothing about the maker -

If they're still around, call or send an email. They have to know something if they cared enough to put a sticker on it. It's worth a shot. -

Ask for the shop's owner or resident "graybeard" (though don't use that word ;0), someone who's been around for a long time and might know the history of what they've sold. Say why you're calling, offer to send a picture, and get them investing in finding out the answer. Might just work. Best of luck! -

Ok... Since I've been told it's a SR, Do I put on the Campy Strada Cranks or do I go with SR Pista Cranks? -
- CommentAuthorOtto Rax
- CommentTimeJul 1st 2009
It looks like an old SR to me as well, POSSIBLY one of the araya bikes, but unlikely. Go full SR! sr pista cranks, sr superlight stem, etc etc -

Mr. Otto Rax... Can you give me some more info on the "SR" model? -

"Strada" and "Pista" mean "road" and "track", respectively. Use the cranks that best suit how you plan to ride.
The term "SR" in this thread has at least two meanings, which are not being carefully distinguished:- SR=(Campagnolo) Super Record - the 1973-1985 high-end line of Campagnolo components
- SR=Sakae Ringyo Ltd. - a Japanese component manufacturer, which eventually bought the SunTour name.
There's also a number of '80s framesets branded SR, both in steel and aluminum. There's considerable dispute about whether the SR frames were manufactured by Sakae Ringyo, or by someone else using the same initials.
Given that Otto says you should use an SR superlight stem, I assume he's talking about Sakae Ringyo; Campagnolo dinna make stems. -

This is a road frame... but I'm going fixed. I was told this could be a custom built frame from the guy I bought it from.
I really don't know and don't really care... I like it.
If its japanese I'd go with SR Pista Crankset, if not and it is a custom... I'll go with Campy parts.
Just like to know which parts to polish...

whatever you do (with in reason) it will look great. that is a really beautiful and distinctive frame you got there. i think personally it would look nicer gear, but i could def. picture a killer fixed build too.
good luck. -

Need better pictures.
Need to know threading of bottom bracket.
DId it have Campagnolo parts on it when you got it?
My wild guess is 3Rensho, or SAN Rensho. You'll notice that the teardrop tubes go into cast teardrop lugs, only a production builder who does customs is going to be able to do that, or maybe a small handmade builder who's client had really big pockets. -

Not without better pictures. You can read, right? The bottom bracket should have it's threading written on it. -

i think its pretty safe to say that this is a pretty rare frame, ergo generally targeted research has probably gotten you as far as possible (i.e. "my wild guess is 3rensho").
if someone here knew about it the would have recognized it right away and have given you that "eureka moment"
