So I had a purple front Aerospoke wheel on my bike. But now it's gone :( so that means I need something new. I am looking at an aluminum Hed 3 I have 2 questions. 1 does the aluminum have a braking surface I use a front break because I ride on the road and it definitely helps. And my 2nd question, is the aluminum Hed 3 painted? I ask this because if it is I want to strip the paint off and have it painted lime green (my favorite color). Thanks everyone for your help I am glad to be a member here

    ^_^

don't spend the money on a hed 3 for the road, man.
  3.
spend your money on whatever you want, man.
  4.
if you have the cash, spend it. but i agree its not the best way to go.
just get some mavic wheels. best ever made. unless you HAVE to be
    flashy. but whatever.
  5.
Nothing wrong ith a little HED action. Get it? Hehehe....

Anyhow, get the HED. Who cares. Ride it like you stole it. But no, they aren't painted, and the aluminum rim provides all the braking surface you need, I believe.

and you can't powdercoat it, either.
  6.
don't paint carbon. most retarded thing ever.

Wow, almost every comment in this thread is an epic fail. He's not referring to a HED3, he's referring to the original composite Specialized trispokes that had aluminum rims/braking surfaces. There is no such thing as an aluminum HED3, and they are not painted, they are composite flat black. Buy whatever you want, paint whatever you want.

    and no, he's referring to a hed3. hed3 = crabon body/aluminum rim, hed3c = crabon body/rim. and yes, i spelled it crabon.

yes, you can paint it but:

    1. you'd never be able to sand it down and repaint it without damaging the wheel

    2. you'd look like an idiot, unless your name is octopus magic

what? they have a clearcoat on them. sanding down the clearcoat wouldn't harm them.
  8.
but it would be easy to over sand it and then go though the clear coat and grind away the carbon fiber
  9.
    Hipster to the MAX!

Rollin' on the neon colored plastic wheels!

I've only seen one kid rolling with these in Houston, at one of the few times I went to a critical mass (aka. worthless hipster pub crawl). Can't offer any valuable insight on them, but I definitely have no desire to waste my money on them when I can get a better complete wheel set for the cost of one.

Hey, I reserve my right to look like an idiot all I want! :)

For the record, HED's/Carbon specialized wheels are NOT clearcoated, but are actually just well done epoxy. I didn't sand very much on my wheel before I primed it, I just roughed it up a little so the primer would stick better.

I seem to be doing quite well with just one and it's painted on top of it all.
  13.
well you are the exeption you did everything perfect. i have seen countless numbers of painted aerospokes and heds but your bike is the only one that looks good in my opinion

front tubular is fine for the street. Keep the psi up, and you prob wont ever get a flat.
