What do you guys think of this.... I bought a complete cyclocross bike off some guy on craigslist, but only wanted the frame so I put all the part on ebay. I pulled the rear derailleur apart, cleaned it up, made sure all the threads were good, the cogs spun ok. Took pictures of the front and back showing the color was worn off on the back plate that holds the cogs on the side closer to your back wheel, and the usual scratches on the front where the logo is, some of them were pretty deep. I then uploaded the pictures on flicker so people could see the derailleur in larger than life size pictures to make their own judgements, because I said it had some scratches, but nothing major. If anything was major, it would've been the scratches on the outside by the logo, but they were perfectly well documented, and in my opinion, if it's a mountain bike part, it's expected to have some scratches and scuffs. Anyway, he emails me complaining about the marks on the front, and it was a serious ommission of me to not put pictures of that part in the listing, and sends me a picture of what he's talking about.... http://f356.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f219633%5fAJGzo0IAAN8hSjaAwAi29U3pJwg&pid=2&fid=Inbox&inline=1&stationery=1 (not sure if that link will work, since it's from my email, and I'm at work so i can't upload it to flickr or anything)
There's 4 little scuff marks on the front that I wouldn't ever even given a second thought about, and said he'd appriciate a $10 refund. Everyone else who got parts in the same condition were perfectly happy and already left positive feedback, and I can admit when I make a mistake listing something, but this guy is just whining because he's done it in the past and people have sent him money back. I understand some people buy bikes as a livingroom decoration, but if you're buying used mountain bike parts off of ebay, you need to be prepared to get parts that have come in contact with dirt and rocks, because some people actually ride mountain bikes offroad. He also said in the last email that he didn't even look at the bigger pictures that were there, that clearly showed the condition the derailleur was in. I hate people who whine for no reason. Sorry about that. Just had to vent to someone. I'm most likely going to tell him to leave me bad feedback and go away. If he wants parts in good condition, he needs to go to the store put out the cash for something new, or atleast look for auctions with lightly used parts, not ones that clearly say they're used and look it. Just for the record, I have 100% feedback, and my other ratings for shipping and item descriptions are all 4.5 or 5 stars, so obviously no one else has a problem with my listings.

Can't you respond publicly to negative feedback anyways? If so, provide a concise version of what you just said in your response, and anyone with half a brain would realize that guy is just a scheming douche

You can but you can only post one sentence or so, and it's hard to accurately describe people like that with so few words without using any real profanity. Sellers can't even leave feedback on ebay anymore, which probably does more good than bad, so it's fine, but this prick is going to go on being a shitty buyer for the rest of his life, and never have a negative feedback to help anyone else out.

Ship him a turd with a ten dollar bill buried inside of it

Haha good idea. Yeah man eBay is a little tough like that these days. I've had almost the exact same thing happen to me recently. Sold a dude a used NJS frame and got the whole "I dunno dude there's some scuffs in the paint I didn't see in the pictures, wanna do a partial refund?". I basically replied like so "Hey assface it's called a USED frame. I told you in the auction there were various knicks in the paint but nothing to write home about... why the fuck you writin home about it then? Let's do this. I will refund you exactly what you paid including shipping and you go ahead and send me back my frame and I'll sell it to someone who understands how this whole bicycle thing works."
Never heard from the dude again and never got any feedback on it. What a turd though. Fucker got a damn fine keirin track frame for like $400 and had the nerve to bitch and moan 'cause it'd actually been ridden in the three years I owned it.

Yeah dude I say fuck 'em. Don't let the dude extort a penny outta you. Just tell him if he's unhappy then how about he send you back what you sold him and you'll give him his money back. That way you've offered him an out (one he surely won't take) so it'd be really off for him to leave negative feedback.

Tell him to go fuck himself. I agree with everyone above, especially when it comes to mountain bike parts. I will say though that when I bought my 3Rensho about a year ago on ebay the cunt I bought it off said it was in VERY good condition, he neglected to tell me that the right hand side of the fork was scratched to shit in a fairly big time way, along with the right hand seat stay, now I'm fairly easy going and I hardly expected a Minter but a bit more honesty would've been nice, especially cos I paid fairly high too, maybe that was my excited stupidity or just someone else just been a miserable prick. I mailed him to inform him that I wasn't overly happy but I got no response. On that occasion I should've left negative feed back. Maybe I'm too nice, or maybe too lazy but in the end I didn't. Luckily I got a sticker kit which covered the front fork.

I say stick to your guns and if he leaves negative feed back he leaves negative feed back, you'll feel better and he'll always be a negative scabby prick, probably has no friends too, muahahahaha, small victories eh?!!

Did you pay $400, and then the guy emailed you back and called you an assface??

I bought an Orbea that specifically said "is not cracked or bent", then i bought it, and the rear end was cracked and bent to the point that the frame was only 74mm apart. He just wrapped the whole frame in saran wrap and wrote my address on the plastic. He pretended to brace the rear end with the cardboard roll that's inside a roll of packing tape. Then he insured it, and thought he could scam fedex for the shipping money, and just let me be the collateral damage in the middle. After I got the frame and checked the pictures again, you could clearly see the cracks and bends, which without the frame in your hand, just looked like reflections of light, but obviously weren't. I emailed him, and he denied it and pretended to be pissed that I'd accuse him of it. I just sent it straight to paypal and tore the guy a new asshole. He never responded to paypal, and they just send me the money+shipping back. I still have the frame sitting in my basement somewhere. It'll never be usable, but it's too light for me to want to throw it away.

I don't buy anything I can't touch first. That goes for items I order from my LBS's too. In my eyes it's "buyer be ware"! I''d gladly travel a state or three in distance than get screwed by some dip-stick...

That said, I'm sorry what happend has happned to you & others.

I just checked my email and saw I have a paypal dispute from the guy, I haven't even gotten around to emailing him back yet because I've been at work all day, so I'll email him and just tell him to send the thing back to me, there's not a chance he's getting a $10 refund out of me just because he doesn't like a scratch. I'll just relist the stupid thing on ebay again and sell it to someone who actually buys mountain bike parts to ride them.

Stinky, I've bought a lot of stuff off Ebay. There was some shennanigans once with a cross-threaded BB, but that was fixed easily enough, and that's one out of 60-some purchases over the years.

Hey UP.. As a looonng time eBayer, here's my 2 cents:
You provided the pics that he did NOT view. You stated that they were used. It's his responsibility as a buyer to review ALL of the wording and pics provided BEFORE he makes the contract to buy. Just point out these obvious factoids and ALWAYS use the eBay message center so everyone involved can track these things. Keep it factual and you'll come out on top.

(I've made "bad" purchases because I didn't thoroughly read the description too). Just like buying at WalMart or anywhere else; review what you're buying before you lay your cash down.
  6.
Yeah, I left him a nice long reply. I told him the parts came off of a cyclocross bike I bought just for the frame, and he starts this paypal thing talking about me leaving out the fact that the part was used for CX racing. Who said anything about racing? The bike was clearly just tossed together with old parts the guy had laying around so he could sell it complete. I've done that a hundred times myself. People would much rather buy a complete bike than a 50% complete bike, not to mention the frame barely had a scratch on it anyway. And why in the world does he care about the parts being used for cyclocross? I would think being put mountain bike part on a cyclocross bike is like letting a cop be a crossing guard, light duty.

Anyway, yeah, I'm not too concerned about it. I told him if he isn't happy just mail it back and I'll give him all of his money back, then I'll just sell it to someone who wants to actually ride their bike, instead of part it in their livingroom so your jackass friends can look at it and say "whoa you have an XTR derailleur? you must be serious!"

He also keeps bringing up other auctions where derailleurs ended for $26. If all these other "better" derailleurs ended for $10 less, why didn't he bid $10 less on those ones.

What an ass, I think he just has too much spare time now that school let out and he's just stuck in his moms house all day.
