What books about bikes are good?
I am reading "We Might As Well Win" by Johan Bruyneel which is really entertaining and insightful. The stories about riding in the pro peleton and winnin 7 Tour de France races with Lance and another with Contador is great. The book has lots of stories, tips, and has me excited to watch the 2009 Tour. -

Bike Cult, I don't remember who wrote it though. It's one of those books you can open and start reading anywhere... -

I liked the photography in Pedal. Not much of a read but nice to have around. Plus it comes with a DVD.
I'm sure everyone here already owns a copy but Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance is a must own as well. Again, not much of a fun read but man have I dug into that thing a good number of times.
If you want a great new book that isn't about bikes check out When Skateboards Will Be Free by Saïd Sayrafiezadeh. It's a memoir of the author as a young child growing up in a socialist household in America. Funny, heartbreaking, thought provoking. Everything a good book should be. I kept this thing in my bag for the week I was reading it and would always find a grassy spot to pull over on sunny days and sit out and enjoy a couple chapters. So in that regard it's a great bike book :) -

Jobst Brandt's The Bicycle Wheel explains how bike wheels work. I wish it went into the fringe stuff more — weird lacings, solid wheels, stuff like that, but what it lacks in breadth it makes up for in depth.
The Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair is actually conveniently small, but covers almost anything you're going to need to know on a day-to-day basis.
I covet the Paterek Manual for Bicycle Builders. It's all about how to make steel frames. Soon, soon my pretty. Soon you will have a practical purpose in my library. It's pricey, but as far as I can tell, the only book that covers the topic.
Bicycling Science does for the rest of the bike what Brandt's book does for the wheels. -

So true, I have built many wheels with that very book!
If it can teach me to lace a wheel, it can teach just about anyone I think! -

I like bike history and technology, so it's things like The Dancing Chain and The Competition Bicycle. For repair I use Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance, though only for things like rebuilding Ergo shifters.
