Going clipless is the easiest and cheapest way to improve the quality of your ride -

Clips and straps for me. I like being able to wear my normal shoes when I ride. Platforms are not a good idea on fixed. -

I agree most platforms are jankie, wellgo, etc. However, the GR-9 from MKS actually surprised the hell outta me. I was pretty reluctant to try them at first, but a reliable person at Orange 20 in L.A. convienced me, and I'm glad he did. -

Platform pedals work great on single speed rides. There are many awesome bmx brands that kick ass. Animal Hamilton are the ones on my ride and they are great. It depends on what you are looking for and if you are riding single speed or fixed gear. -

I ride with straps and cages as well... As with most, I agree about the convenience and comfort of just wearing my regular shoes.. Thinking about updating to double straps though, I've heard its a world more comfortable to throw skids with them... -

I use track pedals with clips and straps, but I also wear these:

The stiff sole makes the ride much, much better. I'd switch to clipless, but I think my knees won't let me. -

these work great with clips and cages (clips are optional to be installed) super stiff soles and slick... slide right in if you know what I mean

used to wear clipless. but my mtb spd's failed on me twice and i couldn't slow a fixed wheel fast enough with one foot to avoid breaking 2 collarbones. im guessing my panic skid involves me kicking my heel out involuntarily.
i now ride with soma oppy-x double gates with double leather straps. thinking about BMX pedals with powergrips next
tricks are fun :) -

Once I went clipless years ago, I never went back. It's obviously best to ride with mountain bikes shoes if you need to walk with them on.
I rode SPDs for mountain bike applications. Once I started riding fixed, I tried them. Too many unintentional release incidents for my liking, not enough tension. So... I switched a year ago to Time Atac XS pedals. The absolute best in my opinion. I have yet to "pop" out accidentally, which happened while skidding with sideways force on SPDs. I recommend them to everyone that asks, top notch. -

I'm riding the Soma Double gate cages, with Toshi double straps...and doubt I will ride anything else. The pedals are the MKS RX-1, which are abit narrow in width, but still work great. -

Odyssey Trailmix platforms. I ride them on my BMX and also on my fixie. I don't like the feeling of being clipped/strapped to my bike. I know, I know, I'll get used to it/It's not like it's unsafe/etc. I just like platforms. -
