there have been many reported quality control issues with tommasos. get a kilo tt from bikes direct and spend the extra $100 you're saving on a new set of pedals, a brake, and a new cog and lockring

Can you explain quality control issues? I'm a noob.

The specific issue I remember was a crooked rear triangle. The guy sent it back and they sent him another one with a crooked rear triangle. If I remember correctly they eventually just refunded the guy his money so he would stop talking about it over the internet. I think this was on bikeforums. It was a while back so my memory is foggy.

I really like those black frames. I don't know why, and that comment is in no way related to quality as I've never ridden, or even seen one in person, I just think they're great looking frames. The green one however is awfully ugly, and just because they made a frame with a threaded headset hardly makes it "old school". The black one is cheaper than the green one as well, and doesn't have that huge fork either.

Not in relation to the quality of either bikes, I can't stand when random websites pop up selling entry level bikes for $400, but then try to make it sound like you're actually getting a great deal by telling you the MSRP is $1000. If you buy one of the bikes, you should buy it from someone who isn't trying to take advantage of you. That's like a bike dealership telling you the MSRP on a pista concept is actually $4000, so you're getting a great deal on one for $1300. Those motobecane and windsor frames used to always say they has MSRP's of around $7-800 when they were on ebay, Then when your friends, who don't know all that much about bikes come around and tell you they got a great deal on this $800 bike, you have to live with the fact that some pathetic marketing major just scammed your friend. Salesmen do not have a soul.

So i have been riding one of these for the past 3 months. There are some good things about this bike and some not so good things.

    The positives to the bike:
Cheap!! the price on this bike is great but it doesn't compare to a Pista like other forums said. Lots of forums were saying the geometry on the two were similar. Not the case, my friend has one and the geometry isn't as tight.

Crankset - the Truvativ cranks aren't nearly as bad as what people were saying in other forums, just make for sure they are tight.

Rims - The DP18s that come with this bike are great. Even more expensive bikes come with cheaper rims.

Now the not so good things.

Pedals - they are awful, throw them away and get a set of MKS sylvians.

Hubs - The hubs that come with this bike are terrible. I twisted the rear hub in half one night bar crawling. My LBS tech and good friend said he has never seen that happen in the 8 years as a tech. This leads me to believe they used some $5 hubs on a nice rim. I haven't seen anyone else complain about this but i am. I just ordered Deep V's with formula hubs :), safer bet.

Bars- Handle bars on my were not even close to being straight. Better as bull horns or just put riser bars on there.

Geometry- Now over all i like the geometry for the most part but the angle of the the fork is not enough. My feet rub the front wheel all the time. This sucks if you are trying to learn and do track stands.

Chain ring - If you are riding this thing hard you will want a different chain ring. Mine is bent but that might have been caused by some late night trickery.

My overall view on this bike is that if you dont have a lot of money off the bat it will definitely work. Just over time buy some new parts here and there. I would give the bike a 7 out of 10. If you have more of a budget go to your LBS and buy a Masi or Fuji Track. Guy at my LBS said last years Fuji Tracks are on sale right now.
