I had an augusta for a year. It was a decent frame. I've got no complaints with it other than that its ugly. Its just another cromo frame. They did have some quality control issues that led to some crooked rear triangles on some frames a while back though. Not sure if thats been sorted yet.
edit: i just looked and they dont have the ugly writing all over them anymore, thats a plus. -

Uninsured driver hit you? I say you get to keep his car and sell it to recoup any losses on your part. Did you file a police report, or did you just let the driver go? -

with all the money he saves from not paying insurance, black mail is the best option. black mail in non coercive terms that way it cannot be indicated that you were black mailing. -

Found my Pake frame on outsideoutfitters.com for 170.99 plus tax and s/h.
I've been riding it for a week now and I love it. Super comfortable and not as heavy as everyone says.
It got to me fast too.
Plus the decals are on top of the clearcoat, they peel off if you want. -

Look into your state's crime victim's assistance fund. In Illinois there is a state run program for people in your situation who suffer economic loss because of criminal behavior (like getting hit by a car driver who doesn't have insurance) -

Anytime a cyclist is struck by another moving vehicle, it should be treated no differently than if the cyclist was driving a car. No, you may not like em, but calling the cops is a smart move. That way, they can at least make sure the information that the driver renders is legit, you will have a police report just in case you need to make an insurance, legal, or medical claim, and they will likely do a roadside sobriety test on the driver. All of these things are in your favor.Posted By: gregLook into your state's crime victim's assistance fund. if you're not hurt and/or you didn't go to the hospital do not expect a thing from any type of state assistance fund. also, even if the driver is insured, do not expect any money for your bike.
i got $350 from the insurance company for a bike that was worth $3000 because "there was no proof of the condition the bike was in before the accident". and since i walked away without a scratch "it's hardly believable that the bike would have sustained much damage." and that was with 6 witnesses testimony in a hit and run where the lady blatantly ran a stop sign and dragged my bike under her car.
i got hung up on by 7 different lawyers before one of them took the time to tell me that "if you have no medical bills, no lawyer is going to take your case. there is no money in replacing bicycles."
if you have medical bills, even if you have to lie and fake to get them, you can expect much more. i would have never suggested that before march of this year. i would have thought less of someone who lied about being hurt. now i say lie. fake it. sue the state if you have to. tell them you're scared to leave the house due to being frightened by the thought of uninsured illegal immigrants running you over. tell them you can't work. get every penny you can and then go back about your usual life.
chirp,

honestly i really dont feel its worth it to go through all that, besides, i need a bike soon and all that stuff would take some time. i've narrowed it down to two choices, they are both the same price so thats not really a consideration. my choices are the visp aluminum, or the tommaso augusta. which do you guys feel is better and why? -

I believe the better choice would be the bicycle that fits you. -

I was a snails shell away from getting hit yesterday. Cars suck, especially when they don't stop. I say buy one of the Visp alu. frames and tell us about it. I saw them online and have read forums on them, but nobody has one, or if they do they haven't written about it online. -

Do you have any collision coverage on your auto policy? Or, do you have homeowner's or renter's insurance?
Either should allow you to file a claim, and once the deductible is paid, you can get a new bike. You'll need to probably get estimates from several bike shops on what the replacement (not depreciated) cost of the bike is.
I keep up-to-date photos on my main bike, and receipts for my upgrades. Every so often, I call my insurance agent, and ask the same questions:
-What if someone pulls a gun on me at a stoplight and takes my bike?
-What if my bike is damaged by a house fire, or while outdoors (e.g., a tree fell on it)
-What if someone hits me and is at fault?
-Does my policy cover full replacement value of my bike (not depreciated)? If not, what do I have to do to ensure it does?
So far, I've been told that as long as I'm not racing (considered a higher risk), that I'm fully covered for the replacement cost of the bike, after I've paid the deductible. Which is good, because I'd peg replacement cost between 5-6 grand, even though I couldn't sell my ride for that much. -

I got hit by a Toyota Yaris about a month ago... Didn't break anything, but they took me to UC Davis where apparently 7 stitches and a band aid cost $20,000 -
