So I'm buying myself a new bike, and figured this would be a good spot to get some opinions. I haven't ridden fixed since high school, which was about 4 years ago now. Ever since college I've just been ridding a super old schwinn cruiser which I love, but I want to get back into some more serious cycling now. I've got about $850 saved up in the piggy bank right now. Currently I'm thinking about buying the new Raleigh Rush Hour 09 when in comes out in a couple of weeks. The frame and parts all seem pretty legit, and the price is right. I was just wondering if anyone on here had some suggestions on a better bike, or a better way to stretch out the budget and get something better. I'm not the best at bike repair, so I'm guessing I wouldn't be the best at building one from just parts, but If its worth it I could probably figure it out and do it. Or should just stick with the rush hour? What do you all think?

the new Leader track frames feel pretty good and are reasonably priced so you can put more money into wheels and cranks. the frame is probably stiffer than the raleigh one too the geo is more aggressive so in the end you would get a better performing track bike but not really a road fixie

Ya, I guess I should include what I want to use it for as well.. It will just be an every day bike for commuting to and from campus, as well as longer weekend and evening rides. I don't need anything built for a velodrome or anything, I won't be doing anything serious with it, just playing around and the occasional alleycat.

you should check out the bianchi pista, i know everyone has them but there is a reason everyone has one they are a good bike and with the left over dough you could upgrade instantly.

ok sounds fair. for commuting I would still rather invest those $850 in components and build them up. for commuting I would probably pick a good chromoly lugged frame because it is the toughest light weight solution out there. good sturdy wheelset and cranks (don't get the sugino RDs they suck ass) and that's it
but if you're not looking in putting in all that work I guess that raleigh is an alright package deal unlike those shitty pistas that everybody rides

will you ride it fixed? if so, i'd get an iro angus or a surly steamroller for that price point. the pista does have good components right out of the store but the angus is a bit less ubiquitous (you will have to wait some time though, i don't know how long it will take tony to have a frameset or complete build for you). all of those bikes in that price range are very similar, you just have to think about how you will ride and choose accordingly. for tricks, speed and all around street durability you can't beat the angus or the steamroller. hope this helps, good luck!

I'd go with the Kilo TT. As a fellow poor college student, I see the need for a cheap bike. If you look at bikes, such as the Bianchi Pista, many components are the same, like the crankset and wheels. The Kilo TT rides great, looks cool, and with the extra 500 bucks, you could mod it up a bit. Just my biased sugestion.

for a complete bike... i'd check out the bianchi pista, jamis sputnik, or fuji track... personally i'd go with the bianchi
