Not sure if this is old news to you folks or not, but apparently a bill was signed last November that grants cyclists 20 bucks for each month that their bike is used as their primary means of commuting to work:

If I'm understanding this correctly, your employer reimburses you the 20 each month, rather than including it as a tax break when doing your taxes each year. I'd be interested in hearing input from anyone who has already implemented this with their employers. 20 bucks a month ain't gonna get you anything fancy, but it's still 20 bucks a month... :)

Wow, get paid to ride to work..., seems like a no-brainer to me!

it's definitely a no brainer. The tough part, is convincing your employer they should care enough to do something about it

Until they tore my dreams apart, I had plans of starting this giant inner tube pyramid in my basement, $20 could get me 4 tubes a month, 48 tubes a year, by the time I retired in 33 years I'd have a 1584 tube pyramid, minus the couple I actually use in a year.

Yeah. It definitely sucks that you have to convince your employer to implement the reimbursement policy. Fortunately it's of no cost to them, so it shouldn't be an issue if you work for a smaller company, or any any company with a reasonable HR department.

My employer is the one that informed me of it, so I guess I'm lucky :)

Damn, I had no idea. I'll have to hook this up, I could use $20.

Its too bad there isn't a way to make this work for school. I know its only $20 a month, but hell, everything helps when it comes time to pay tuition.

I thought that it'd be a given since I work for the state. If anyone's gonna know about taxes, it would be the government, but on the downside, when someone asked, and they said no, it left pretty much no wiggle room.

$20 a month may not mean much in tuition, but in bike commuting, that'd be amazing. You'd never have to waste your own money on tubes, patches, bar tape, tire levers, multi tools, all the stupid little stuff would be covered

Who said no? Write some letters to that person's boss and have all the bike commuters sign it.
