    Hi All,
I'm looking to fix up my Dad's 80's Eddie Merckx which I found hiding in the back of the garage and needing some attention. I've been looking at getting a fixed gear and wondered if I can convert the Merckx... or would that be a bad idea? Should I restore the bike to it's former glory?

I don't really know anything about the bike and so any info you might have would be really interesting. Is the bike worth much? Would people buy it as it stands? Where is the best place to buy parts?

I've posted photos on my profile.

Really any info would be a great start... thanks for your help.

    Tom

Checked out the bike, it's a mid- to low-range model. Normally I'd say to always restore a Merckx, but you have the option here -- a conversion might not be a bad way to go.

keep gears on that bike! PLEASE!! restore it. period.
  1.
Leave it completely alone or have it professionally restored.
Nothing short of those two extremes in my view...
