So , this has happened to two of my friends cog slipping , now its happening to me . When riding , my pedal would just drop . I checked it and everything was on tight , but still slips . I heard from a friend there is a shim you can buy, but I havent been able to find one .

Anyone else have this same problem ?

Its not a stripped anything. The way mavic makes the hub, even with the cog and lockring on all the way tight , its still not quite enough and will eventually slip

not necessarily true. You either need to add a spacer to the system, or get a cogger with a wider profile, like a DA. Do a search or flip through a few pages of this forum, their is an extensive post about this vary isssue
  1.
Yes, You need to put a spacer between the flange and your cog ( I did this on mine and it worked fine).

they are stickers that leave a nasty residue on the rim. fingernails and copious amounts of goo-gone. these are not JUST stickers, they are the hellacious paper stickers

yes, you need a spacer to go on first. i use the miche cog system and i needed the spacer. search this forum about this topic. leave the decals.

i have 2 sporkets on my ellipses. the first did not slip with dura ace sporket. i got nother mavic lock ring and dura acesporket fitted. it slipped. I have found that one side of the lockring have little lines on the outside like ( ///////// ). that side should go against the sporket. there should be no need for spacers. i got the lockring turned round and it now works fine!!!! it is mavics fault coz there is no intructions but it is what causes so many problems. i have raced on them both and skidded and no problem

    hope this is helpful

I think you'd do better to put the spacer between the cog and lockring. It depends what type you use. I have some thing 1mm aluminum spacers, not sure what they were originally made for, but they fit on freehub bodies, bottom bracket, and hub threads, it should be enough to fill the gap, but sometimes they can be a little soft, which is why you might do better to put it outside the cog, otherwise the constant pressure from you pedaling might compress it faster, and cause another gap

on mine there is no gap. its nice and snug. mavic would not make a product that can't be used. if a spacer was needed they would change the design. mavic make gold medal winning wheels. they are not going to make a wheel which keeps braking. you just need to no what ur doing

if so many people are having problems (and there are a ton of people with ellipse issues), then it can't simply be user error.

My cog slipped today, i got some nasty road rash and the wind knocked out of me. So now I'm looking at my mavic lockring / Dura Ace 16t combo, and it is as tight as its going go get. And I have turned the side of the lockring with markers towards the cog.
After today Ellipse and I have some serious trust issues. :/

no, YOU need to KNOW what you're saying. A little less time studying mavic wheels and a little more time in english class before you're going to walk around telling people they don't know what's going on. I think they look like nice wheels, but all I ever hear about are those cogs slipping. Mavic does make some great wheels that are used by great riders, but I don't think I saw any olympians riding on ellipses recently. That's like people who assume any parts that has the name Campagnolo or Shimano stamped on them must be nice, and by your logic they should be. Tons of guys ride on Dura Ace and Record in the tour de France, so that sora derailleur you have should NEVER skip a gear. Right?

its a wall paper remover that will take any kind of 'sticker' off. I would definitely try it on a tiny part of the sticker before going full on with it. Make sure it wont damage the finish of the rim but that will take just about anything off with very little effort involved.

I do not know what I missed in this thread and I do not feel like reading but, it seems a lot of people have problems with this wheelset. I do not even think they look all that nice.
  4.
If you're worried about wall paper remover hurting your rims, you could just use mineral spirits
