I have a 720 tr. It isn't terrible but it isn't great. I bought it about a year ago and it has served me well. I have a pretty beefy carbon fork too, and that helps abosorb the rough road. It is good for the money, mine has held up just fine. I am only concerned with the track ends that are alu. I am always scared they will crack. Does anyone know if this is true??? If you get one, get the 721 or the 725. Pista concept and a felt are nice, but if you are looking for something to put togeather this week, that is cheap and if you are new to riding fixed, then this bike will work well for you.
Buying these frames will allow you to part up too. And then, after you have nice parts, and have some skill riding, you can get a better bike.

for an entry level bike it can't be beat. pricewise...at least. ive had one (721 tr) for about a year now. it creaks incessantly even though ive greased and tightened everything in/around the drivetrain. the aluminum dropouts are shredded but for some reason i just can't get rid of it. 150 bones is pretty hard to beat though

I got a 737r which is their road bike with track dropouts (not really, they are exactly the same but I dont want to get into it), and I got the frame and headset for less then $220 shipped. They have great deals, and for the price they really cant be beat. If you are a baller though and have the money to blow, I would look elsewhere.

he didn't say buy a carbon fiber bt or corima. it's more like "i want to buy a civic" & "don't do it, save up and buy an accord"
  2.
well..seeing how a leader frame is only like 300 bucks...and a pista concept is like 3x that..its more like
"i want to buy a civic"
"don't do it, buy an m3"
  3.
reasons why you shouldn't buy a leader:

    A: CREAK

Find a solid steel frame. Italian preferable... american builds are rubbish. Yamaguchi from japan if u can find one used for cheaper. Leader is janky and bucket of fixie bollucks. As for ur "good parts" id do a little more research on "good parts". front aerospokes are worthless. Sell it and buy a solid campy or miche wheelset. Save your cash and get quality. If u dont want quality then buy leader or mercer or windsor.

How can a frame introduce creak? It sounds like something's not greased.

steel frames kick ass. this is the main reason i did a fixed conversion instead of going for a cheap entry level aluminum track frame. i probably spent half of the price of one of those frames for my road bike that came pretty much complete. the only other money i spent was in converting it. i would at some point like to invest in a really nice and sturdy steel track frame. any specific ones people really like that will stand up to my reynolds 501?

i just bought a 720tr last week, wouldn't recommend it. the headset is tricky (zero stack) and the aluminum dropouts and frame really worry me and im only 130 pounds. I have a steel conversion and i would totally recommend steel over getting a new leader...they pretty much suck. but for the money, it might be worth it for a little while before an upgrade.
  7.
amen! you should tell the people in the "How many of you hate “want-to-be” fixie’s?" forum. it seems like there are a lot of road bike and track bike elitists out there that just dont understand the point of a solid and cheap fixed gear conversion. my trek frame (aka reynolds 501) rides great as a commuter on the streets and is light as can be. i dont even know if the geometry of a true track bike would ever really work out for me on the rough streets. i like a bike that rides nice and that is strong. i have yet to find one anywhere near the price i paid for my convert frame.

at 130 lbs, you have nothing to worry about.

another thing to consider if you buy the 720 is the stupid tensioners that come with it. Maybe they took them out for the newer ones??? but anyway, to take out your rear wheel you have to break the chain or run reaaally low tension. the adjusters screw into the back of the dropout and the only way of adjusting them is from the axle side, so once your wheel is in, you can't get it out. the tensioners (unlike paul tensioners in their dropouts) can't be unscrewed from where the chainstays and seatstays connect in the back

heres a link if you don't get it.
Here are the paul dropouts. you can adjust them from the back. http://www.paulcomp.com/drop.html

    and the leader:
(hope you can see the tensioner) http://jcscycles.com/img/rearhub.JPG

just my 2 cents, i removed them FIRST THING and used a Tuggnut

man those 720s look so damned sexy but i still am not sure. ive been looking into cheaper track frames but have no seen one in person that i really liked taht was aluminum. i really dig my reynolds 501, i gotta find a track frame like it!

Why get the 720 when you can get a 725 for nearly the same price, and they dont have the dropout issue.
I dont completely understand most peoples concern about buying aluminum, if you want a bike to do bar spins, wheelies, and skids, buy steel, or better yet, just buy a bmx bike. However, for tooling around the city I personally couldnt be happier with aluminum, and I have ridden steel frames for 6 years before the leader I acquired.

    leader threads are so funny....

Get a pista concept and wait 3-6 months
The felt ... i kinda want one.

I'll sell you my leader for 5 dolla.
  11.
so lykquid, would you recommend the leader725 even verses a pista concept? i figure i just might get an aluminum frame and build up with it. if i completely hate it, i can always sell it. those things sell quick!
  12.
Is this your first frameset? If so, buy a Leader 725tr (or whichever models they have for 2009). It'll be a fine machine as far as you'll know starting off and it won't break your bank. The only thing you won't enjoy are the road bumps transferred to your saddle. It was numbing to ride an alu bike after 30 miles.

I don't recommend you buying any high end bike starting off. You won't learn to appreciate the subtleties between them and you definitely don't want to fear damaging a classic beauty.

On a personal note, I hate Leader as a company ethically. Their machines work. After riding numerous track bikes, I don't like the Leader, but hey, you can get a helluva good deal on them.

    ^^true that...

Leader, P. Concept, Felt Tk2- all pretty similar aluminum frames- built super stiff for racing, or in the case of the leader, simply built with an aero downtube to look cool. These designs- leader most of all- will beat the poop out yer ass over anything but new asphalt.

It's already been said, but GET A STEEL FRAME!

Or, if you want to get crazy without breaking the bank, buy one of those brand-new $300 carbon framesets on ebay- shit, they're all the same as pinarello, kuota, scott- you name it, most of them come out of the same Taiwanese factory. With a wheel built on a White Industries Eno Eccentric rear hub, 130mm, you can make your conversion with no single-ator or other dorky tensioners, and get some flip-flop action if you want to run a freewheel on a whim. For under $1k, you could have a 14lb. carbon single speed. Just don't crash it or lean it on anything too hard:-)

Seriously- for durability, great ride quality- get a steel frame.

If you can afford a pista concept, there really is not point is looking at any leader frame to be honest.
They are a great bike for the price, emphasize on "for the price"...

I'd get a Blue TR250 or a Van Dessel Drag Strip Courage over a Pista Concept any day of the week.

Thankfully I read what you wrote before I went on that forum... It might be a step above jackassery.

I think there is something about road bikes/track bikes, that just attracts assholes who feel they must assert their dominance over everyone.

I like many entry level/budget track frames but IMHO the Leader frames are soooooo buffugly it's hideous. What's even worse is when people paint over them. Never ridden one though. Maybe people like them because they're light, responsive, etc. but good god. Seriously, anything but a Leader frame. Okay, now rip on my crappy conversion.
