I'm waiting for my new bike to come through in 4 weeks time. It's a Ridley Aedon. You can see one on the excelleet Tripperdog's space. I'm wondering about tyres that will be highly puncture resistant. Over here in London, the roads are littered with glass from little beer bottles smashed each Friday and Saturday!
The bike will come with Vredestein Ricorsso's, which I'm told aren't that resistant. I don't want to spend too much time at the roadside, so any advice would be appreciated. I've been pointed at Continental Ultra Gator Duraskins, Schwalbe Ultremos and Bontrager Race Lite Hardcase 700c Road Tyres.
Any advice would be appreciated as there's nothing worse than being 30 miles from home when you here a hissing sound! I'm not that concerned about speed, as I won't be racing anytime soon. -

I would recommend the Vitoria Rubino Pro with kevlar. I've had the same rubber on my bike for 3 years and they are awesome, very puncture resistant and easy to put on and take off the rim. The rear is pretty flat-topped after skidding, but its still going strong. After I get a few flats in a short time span I'll take the tire off and go over it with a flashlight and a pen knife and dig out the glass and gravel thats worked its way into the tire -

Thanks for that. I'll look them up and see what they're about. I've never heard of them before. You live and learn! -

blowout!
i'm running the panaracer t-serv and for the last two months i've had no problems.
or, you can't go wrong with gator skins on a geared bike. sure, they weigh a ton, but will last a long while -

I know the panaracers are available over here, but I'll have to dig about and see if the soma ever-wears (another one I've never heard of!) are available. I like the sound of 5mm of rubber on the tread. The glass in London is terrible. -

Better than the Gatorskins, I think, are the Continental 4-Season Grand Prix tires. I use them during the winter when the roads turn to shit, but also when I ride in the city where there is tons of potholes, glass and other garbage. Never got a flat. Ever.
When I don't ride the 4-Season, I ride the Continental Grand Prix 4000-S. Rarely got flats, but the tires are very smooth rolling, slow wearing, and fast tires. Highly recommenced. -

the soma tire is actually made by panaracer......check out the panaracer stradius pro, it has "shark skin casing" and can take 150 psi....its like your flying -

i ride specialized armadillo tires and there solid as hell. i live in philthadelphia which is the well known for horrible streets and litter. i had a cheaper set of continentals and got 3 flats in a week and since i switched i have yet to get one. they are lined with Kevlar which is pretty gnar -

How many miles do you put on? Tire Liners suck but can save you the hassle of changing a tube every day in the streets you describe. They also allow you to run the tires you like. -

Ever used tire savers?
They are a bit of stiff wire and tubing that lightly touches the tire near the brake mounts and knocks off things before they can work into the tire causing a puncture. I have used them since the 70's and have NEVER gotten a flat on a bike with them on it. (Really, never!!) They won’t work on tires where they will get caught in the tread pattern but work well road tires. They may be a bit hard to find, but any good shop with an older mechanic should know what you’re after. You can always make your own if you’re the tinkering type, but since they’re cheep I just buy mine.
Anyway, hope this helps & you find what works best for you!

yeah the rubino pro's are quite good, however if your anal about weight they aren't the lightest tyres, sounds like thats not an issue so go nuts.. if you do opt for vittoria steer clear of the CX's if your worried about punctures, you'll spend more time in the gutter than the saddle!
