I'm no expert at all, but it seems like those would slip... but then again, my stem has a shim to keep it on the 1" steer tube, and it works perfectly fine... If it's possible, try to look for one with slits on the outer base so it keeps latched inside the stem better...

shims work fine but look kinda jenky from a purists perspective if you don't mind shim it right and it'll hold

    ohh okie thanks guys

nitto makes a shim for 25.4 bars in 26.0 stems.. costs like $10. there are cheaper (free-er) methods, but i haven't tried them so i can't speak to their reliability.

I have a Nitto stem on my bike (road stem and risers) and its been fine. I used to use a Jumex mango soda shim can but that started to wear down and creak over time.. 6 months with the Nitto shim and its been quiet so far.

    cool thanks!

Apparently, you can get "shim stock" from auto parts places. You'd want to get .3mm stock, cut it, and wrap it.

I'm experimenting with it myself to get some road bar accessories to work on a flat bar on my Mantis.

cool thanks im going to try it out also

Shims work fine - a beer can works great, hasn't slipped yet. It's the perfect width to get a 25.4 bar into a 26.0 clamp
  7.
cool thanks i guess ill try it out
  8.
i use electrical tape and works just fine...
  9.
electrical tape will usually wear out quickly (at least that has been my experience)
  10.
Electrical tape will slowly twist. Bad scene.

I just used some flashing to shim some aero bars to mountain bars. It worked great.
