Anybody know the seatpost diameter of the '85-'86 Miyata Pista? Seems the standard Miyata 26.8 mm is too large. If I had to guess I'd say it's around a 26.0 mm... Anybody know before I go find some calipers?

Sheldon Brown's Seatpost Database doesn't include a listing for a Miyata Pista. Most of the Miyatas and Koga-Miyatas listed are 26.8, but there are a few oddballs:

    • 1990 AlumiCross - 25.8

    • mid-'90s 714 - 25.8

    • mid-'90s Elevation 1000ft - 28.8

    • 1980 610 - 26.7 (WTF?)

It sounds like 25.8 was something in the 26 range that they used a lot. If your LBS/bike kitchen is like mine, they carry a range of the old attach-a-clamp straight seatposts; the ones I usually see are from Summit. My local kitchen charges $5 for them; they should be dirt cheap. At least that will get you something you can test with, until you can find something swankier.

Remember, if you're going to measure with a caliper, measure at several points around the inner circumference. Seat tube can ovalize with wear.
