Quantcast
velospace is about bikes and the people who ride them buy / sell photos random

  1.
A friend wants to know what is the value of OLMO circa 84-85 curved time trial frame.

piscs of similar frame here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cyclist_rsr/sets/72157622687606176/

    ignore the components please
  2.
Well my take on vintage bikes is quite similar to vintage cars. They are only worth what people will pay for them at auction etc, there isnt really a set price. I would say 500 at best, depending on condition on frame, paint, is there surface rust, etc, will it come with parts(headset, BB).
  3.
what about the complete bike ?

Put it up on ebay since you "sell only ebay" anyway.

you help me a lot thanks

I am inclined to agree with Quidose. You don't participate on the site at all except to use it as a platform to promote your eBay auctions or to sell parts for the "best offer." Kind of like a leech.
Personally, I don't like being exploited. It seems to me that spending time doing research for you can only be described as such, when you clearly don't care to be an active part of this community. I will let you price it for yourself.
  5.
Either way, you can do as much research as he wants, but come the end of the day. Its only going to be worth as much as someone wants to pay for it, you cant really price these items anymore, especially with the market these days.

Hey Tony can you go pimp car stereos or something instead of cool-hunting for obscure track frames and turning and burning them?

Leave the frames so someone who loves them can find then and get a bargain, the kind of bargain that obviously allows you to make a profit.

It's people like you that destroy collecting for the average Joe, and put it in the hands of the affluent.

On a related note, it really bothers me when I look at a bike that's just been put up, and it's ALREADY for sale. Velospace is not supposed to be a giant classified ad, it's supposed to be a site for people who love bikes.

Absolutely. I kinda hope Greg sees things the same way and starts booting fools who clearly only use this place to flip bikes. It's his house after all, he can kick a fool out for pissing on the carpet anytime he wants.

Someone should use intraweb magic to make it impossible to post "for sale" and other similar words/phrases in the notes section of newly posted bikes. Its along the same theme as the "no posting to the for sale section until you have been around for awhile" rule. I have no idea if this is possible.

While i agree that making it impossible to post "for sale" in the notes would be a good idea, people could get around it... there are 416 (some say 417, thats another argument) ways to say that an item is for sale.... so while it may slow down for a little while, it'll never stop.

Guy's! The fellow is from Bulgaria and can't figure out that this site is to post bikes that people owns and occasionally sells bits and pieces, Look at is stuff on Ebay, it's mostly very well used bike parts.

    Are you being... sarcastic?
  8.
    Lock the topic then ..
And btw there is no rule saying that's not allowed to put such a thread ..
I already know what I need to know about this frame.

if there is admin let he decide what to do ..

Well then why are you asking what it's worth? Take your chances on eBay or put in a minimum bid or a Buy It Now! price.

If you want to engage in speculative commodities exchange, you will have to take financial risks.

    *****************************************************************************************************************

I would not mind if there was a specific "What's it worth?" thread. That way I could avoid it altogether.

If you guys see bikes posted with "for sale" in the notes section let me know. I will delete those bikes on occasion with that type of note (depending on the rest of the listing, user history, etc) and if the user is newer than two weeks I will delete or ban the user for attempting to circumvent the marketplace posting rules.

Use the moderation buttons to bring those bikes to my attention, send me a PM or email - I want velospace to continue to be a place for people who love bikes and to not turn into a cesspool of crapmerchants plying their bikes

I don't think auction prices are part of what makes up the value of a bike, or a classic car, or whatever. Just because two rich guys get into a bidding war (AKA pissing match or penis swordfight) and end up buying something at auction for some crazy price does not mean that is what the item is worth. It's just what it was worth to ONE PERSON, someone with more dollars than sense.

It should be about Fair Market Value, not crazy auction bids. I can't really define Fair Market Value, but when you've been collecting for a while you recognize it, and you know when someone is trying to ream you. [/rant]
