I flipped my bike upside down and the rag wrapped around my finger while i was rotating my cranks with my other hand. Then a corner of the rag was pulled between the chain and the cog, taking my finger in between the chain and cog as well. Then I looked at my finger and it looked grotesquely small with my fractured bone sticking out. And now I realize that its not a bad idea to be careful when you're cleaning a chain. Haha. We found the section of my finger still smashed between chain and cog just chillin there. It was too dirty and mangled to re-attach. But now i have a cool nub that I'm sure the ladies will love. :D
Lube your chain with caution yeah?

Ouch! Ran my hand through a fan belt pully once. You learn real quick not to do that.

I did the same thing with my uno, being stupid and cranking it up, hand slipped and got caught in the chainring, sliced open 3 fingers, nerve damage etc, and for a total of 16 stitches, it was lovely looking!!!

I would like to see a picture of this as well. Not because I think you're a liar, but because I like seeing amputated fingers. But it's no good until you get the bandages off.

I had almost the exact thing happen to me, but I just lost a finger nail and needed some medical super glue. I have been ultra cautious ever since. I dont think most people realize the amount of force that is going through the chain and cogs.

I am now officially boycotting this thread. As a person who has a long track record of finger-mutilation (sliced open my left thumb with an X-Acto knife; sliced the tip off my right thumb in a meat slicer when I stupidly reached to pull out a stuck orange slice), I do not want to see photos of severed digits. I do not want to take the risk that somebody's going to post a photo of this, thinking it's funny/cool/gross; only the last one is true, and I can live without it.

    Eeeeek.

you should tatoo the end of your nub with somthing like a your fixie to help you remember it.

Oh man, i think i just leaked a little.

I caught the tip of my thumb in my chain once. It hurt, but at least it only caught the very tip of my nail. You should make it worth while and share some gruesome pics. Did you save the tip of your finger as a souvenir?

As the saying goes, don't put your finger anywhere you wouldn't put your [particularly delicate piece of anatomy]. I still have all my fingers and toes, but only through luck, not skill.

wow. That is some balls. I wiped out last week on the back of a van (it was wet, the van hit the brakes really hard, I hit my brakes, they did not work as well as one would have hoped) and lost some teeth, but that doesn't really seem so bad compared to this story.

I would pick losing the tip of a finger over losing teeth any day.

I crushed the tip of my left middle finger in a hydraulic wood splitter BTW.

Teeth can be somewhat seamlessly replaced, while finger tips on the other hand cannot. I have a bridge for three of my upper-front teeth that even I forget are fake at times.

I crushed the tip of my left middle finger in a hydraulic wood splitter BTW.

How does that impact your ability to flip people off? :P

Yes, they can, if you can afford the thousands of dollars it would cost for it to look decent. People look at your face when they meet you, not your fingers. There are people who have known me for years and don't notice my missing fingertip. Missing front teeth kinda yuck me out, I don't think I am alone on that.

I usually use my right hand to flip people off.

Also I've seen prosthetic fingers, they probably cost as much as a dental implant.

I would way rather screw up some teeth than a finger. Losing a finger can destroy a musical a career in music. I can deal with people not liking my face, but not being able to play music would just suck.

Well that was after it was all stitched up. So it didnt bleed much. But the night i cut it off, my finger bled for a good two hours waiting for a doctor to see me in the ER. Then he got my finger all numbed up and cut the bone that was sticking out so he could fold the skin over and close my finger up.
