I am upgrading my bontrager race wheels on my Lemond. I am thinking about purchasing a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elites. Anyone have any experience with these? Ive heard theyre pretty strong and ride nice. What would the advantage/disadvantage be of buying hubs and rims and having them laced? Any other recommendations? -

From what a friend says (rides them on a TCR), they are one of the best wheelsets in the mavic line. Worlds better then the heliums. His only complaint (which I couldnt feel when I rode) was that they have alot more rotational weight then bontrager race-lites. Apparently he felt alittle sluggish gettin up to speed, but they ride smooth and true. -

The real advantage/disadvantage in buying them piecemeal would be that you wouldn't have a "wheelset warranty" as you would if you purchase them built by Mavic, the advantage is that you could use the hubs you want with the rims you want and the spokes that you spec built by the shop you want them built by. Not a machine build.. That's it. -

I train/race on them. They work fine. Not the lightest or most aero wheels I own, but I hammer the crap out of them and no truing issues, nice bearings. Decently stiff for my ~170 lb self.
