If you were hit by a black SUV today by the corner of Manhattan and Greenpoint Avenues, I have the plate # (you rode away before I could give it to you) . I did call 311, and they said the precinct had to handle the incident. When I was transferred to the 94th, the officer on the line said that if I can find the victim and give him the info, he needs to make the report himself.

It wasn't me, but i live in Greenpoint.

Maybe you should try posting something on Craigslist.org as well under the bike section as many people check that too.

    Rock on, jm. Good hunting.

It must have not been that bad if he just got up and rode away from it quickly.

He didn't appear to be hurt, but I wanted to offer the info in case he needed it. It's frustrating, because I at least wanted this to go on record but the police refused to take the number, claiming only the victim can file a report. What's the best way to proceed? I'm trying to do what's right without plastering a plate # everywhere, and what if this driver injures someone in the future?

It was certainly loud enough - I'd think the driver's music would have had to be pretty loud to not be aware of the impact.

    Try bikeforums.net, too.
