Alright all you year-round riders I'm having the damndest time finding a good pair of winter appropriate shoes for riding. I've found plenty of absurdly expensive clipless options and plenty of boots but I'm looking for a cage fitting sneaker type shoe that'll not soak up water when covered with melting snow. Anyone have or know of anything like that? I've got the rest of my winter kit sorted out (dry-fits, waterproof knickers, waterproof socks, plenty of top layers, headgear, gloves, etc..) but I can't find the shoes.
I live in Denver so we don't get a terrible amount of snow most years but I commute about 24 miles round trip a day and I absolutely plan to ride my bike every possible day this winter.

Help me Velo-wan Kenobee, you're my only hope.

There a couple different skate companies that make 'snow' shoes that are completely water proof. I dont know if you are the kind of guy that rocks skate shoes, but I have a pair of Vans Ico's that are waterproof, snow proof... impenetrable. They are specifically marketed as snow skate shoes. They made it through a winter riding in the UP michigan, so they are solid anywhere.

If you dont mind looking silly you can use the raincovers for clipless shoes on your ordinary shoes.

I have a pair of Merrell leather shoes I rode with for years. Never got wet unless I stepped into a puddle deep enough to go over the top of the shoe. They stink something fierce so I now use them for gardening only. Nowadays I use these old clipless Diadora winter mtn shoes I found NOS on eBay. They're sneaker style with a 6" waterproof legging attached. I've seen lots like them around.

Puma Baskets. Wool socks. Generous applications of mink oil/Sno-Seal.

Hard surface leather and wool have been keeping people's tootsies warm for about 3000 years.

dvs, lakai and most skate companies make hi top shoes geared towards snowboarders. lykqid's right, anything geared toward snow skating will last through the winter.

here's a tut on making your own holdfast/powergrip style velcro straps

For the winter, I wear a pair of Clarks Desoto's. They are slip on, zip-ups, so they are easy on/off, and no laces to interfere with the cages or for water to leak into. I live in the Northeast and we get a lot of rain and snow, and these have served me well. They are waterproof, but I also used a leather water proofer on them to make them better.

Why not look at some mountain biking shoes? Most of them don't have to be used with cleats, they have a stiff sole for cycling that you can walk in and some are made for hiking/biking both. The soles in most cases are made for cages and some have a flap that goes over the laces (if they have them).. Most look more like hiking shoes/boots and less like tennies.

Well, you can walk in them, but after a few minutes people will start making tap dancing jokes.

Nah, some of them are very much like hiking boots or shoes and you wouldn't know unless you actually picked them up and looked at them..

Oh, I know what you're saying about looks, but there is no mistaking the sound of a rigid sole on most hard floors.
