I need some suggestion on what to do about my frame.
Its a very rare frame and I can't find the decals anywhere.
Theres some deep scratches so I wanted to fix that along with the paint to make it look new
Is there anyway to keep the decals on the bike and just paint the part that is scratched but at the same time make it look really nice??
I know Car Paint shops do similar work, so I thought I could go there but are there any other suggestions?? -

You could mask off the decals with blue low-tack masking tape, and then sand and paint the rest of the frame, if you can match the color.
There are companies that make frame decals for restorations, unfortunately the names escape me.
What is this rare bike? -

nail polish works well as a touch up paint. There are so many different colors there is usually a really close match, and it dries to a nice shine. Depending on what color the frame is, it might take some time to find the right one but i have always thought it works well. But yeah, any auto-body shop should be able to mix something to match. It will probably cost more than $3 but it might be worth it depending on how thorough you want to be. -

take a photo of the decals, find someone good with PS to make a vector drawing of said decals, and go to a place like fastsigns and get new ones printed. not that difficult, and should only run you about $30, assuming you get the computer work done free
For the rest of us: what kind of frame is it? -

Yes what kind of frame is it, there are people who do make decals, and or have them NOS. I got some for my colnago, yes I know its a colnago, but they were perfect, and heck a friend of mine got some for his schwinn traveler(he had a tough time finding his, but they were out there). -

I'm a graphic designer and have a source for decals. I can do them in vinyl or even water-slide.
You may be able to mask them, but you'd have to do a really nice paint job to make it look like nonshit. -

Go to your local craft store and pick up some mod podge. Mask off as much as you can with tape. Paint over the rest of the decals with it. Paint your bike as usual. When you are done peel off the paste and tape. Use an xacto knife to loosen up around edges. This method worked great for me, I even put it on my headset so I didn't have to remove it when repainting.

Is the logo like this?
If so, that's gonna be pretty hard to mask. -

well I dont need to absolutely paint this bike but I would like to so i can sell if for a little more.
I know japanese and I am looking into ordering it from the manufacturer, but If they do sell it, they would probably sell it for a bill just like the 3rensho decals -

You will be able to sell it for more with the original paint, unless you plan to make it look just as good as it did originally. Then any profit will be sucked up by what it costs to get it painted, unless you are painting it yourself, even then it's cost of materials + time.
People who collect things like vintage or NJS frames are looking for patina, not a cheap shiny paint job. -

Totally true. You can't half-ass a paint job and expect to get more for a bike. Just make sure you're selling it to people who know what it is.
