A lot of older (80’s) MTB’s had a U-brake down there.
They work, but tend to get messy being closer to the ground. -

idk if its what you ment but ive seen a bootleg disk brake rigged opposite of the chain ring in some random picture somewhere. what part of stockton you from i go to UOP
