Dual-pivot Campagnolo Veloces are dirt-cheap; you can buy them on eBay for under $20 a set. And they're very strong. I put them on this build, and they stop a 350-pound rider. That's pretty studly, in my book.

Cosmetically, they look pretty much like the pricier Campy brakes; they're just heavier, and the finish isn't quite so cosmetically precious.

I've had great luck with older used 105 and 600 brakes. I have a brand new ultegra front brake. Its light, has serious stopping power, looks decent, and costs too much.

Basically, all name-brand (Camy, Shimano, SRAM) dual-pull brakes at all levels stop great. The differences between one level and another are weight, price and aesthetics.

Functionally, the difference is that Campagnolo's quick-release mechanism is on the brake/brifter lever, while Shimano/SRAM's quick-release is on the brake caliper. This means that if you combine a Shimano lever with a Campagnolo caliper, you have no quick-release; if you combine a Campagnolo lever with a Shimano caliper, you have two QRs.

SNG makes a knock-off of some Tektro's, which are a knock-off of some low end Campy.

I can tell they are Campy knock-offs because the SNG's don't have a quick release on the calipers, so you'll have to buy some Tektro levers, which are also knock-offs of the same low end Campy line.

I sell these things all the time and are wonderful to set up, stop very well and cost less than the tofu burger/spinach salad/ginger flavored beverage you had for lunch.

Bonus: With a little elbow grease, cotton wool and aluminum foil, you can make those suckers unbranded and shiny by early afternoon. Extra Bonus: If your friends smoke enough pot then they will soon forget that you bought cheap-ass knock-offs and you can tell them they are Campy.
