What are your favorite bike tires?

Do you skid non-stop, or prefer to ride many miles at a go? Talk about your favorite tires in terms of durability, PSI, grip, feel, size, folding vs. wire bead, etc. Go ahead and drop some tire knowledge!

Thanks to bartholomew for the question.

Serfas Seca

For the .99 that u cough up for these tires they give you many skids for your money. Ive had mine on for some time now.. ive got parking garages and many hills on them and they are still alive.

how long have you been riding/skidding on those tires?

i had maxxis fuse and it took me in at least three months to get them to split. (Maxxis)detenators on the other hand didnt last me even a month.

cheap tires.

I use the cheap tires. Right now serfas seca rear ( at lbs) and conti ultra 2000 in front(brand new in dumpster!). I really like the serfas tire, It feels good and you can stop on a hill with it, plus pretty cheap.

If I had more money to spend on tires I would probably buy gatorskins. I've used them before and they are pretty nice. Although, if you skid on a piece of glass or something equally nasty with any tire, you'll probably be screwed.

specialized armidillo

these tires will last you a long time for skidding. conti gators will grip the road a little better but i like the slickness of the armidillos. good stuff even though i am not into their bikes.

Michelin Pro2 Race

Work best around 7.5 bar. Corners well in wet or dry. These ride really nicely, and have one of the lowest rolling resistances of all 23mm tires. They're folding as well. I ride these over terribly shitty streets daily on my commute, and they've held up nicely. Probably not the tire for people who skid like they're trying to prove something.

conti ultra gatorskins 23c

conti ultra gatorskins 23c are awesome for going fast, and schwalbe marathons 32c are the shit for commuting/touring. both have long lasting rubber and kevlar belts so they last forever. but if you enjoy changing flats, then by all means go with something else.

+1 on the Ultra Gatorskins

I finally got a flat on mine just the other day. I picked up a piece of metal off the road. They don't clean the roads here in Indiana so I'm surprised that they lasted so long.

I've heard great things about the Schwalbe's. I just bought a pair of Continental Contacts 700x32 for the commuter/touring bike I just got. Hope they work as well as the Gatorskins.

Randonneur Rear Rubino Front

Front: 700x23c Vittoria Rubino: Holds good, cheap, durable. Not a good rear wheel on a fixie. You tear through that sh*t in like 1 full day of skidding..

Rear: 700x28 Vittoria Randonneur: thick, durable, skids well- not too sticky & grippy, long lasting.(longer than a Rubino, even one with Kevlar) Theres like 3 layers to try and break through. Makes a nice thick skid mark =)

pretty legit set up..

i prefer conti grand prix

i like conti grand prix 4000s, though i haven't owned any for about a year...

least resistance and most protection of anything i've tried

Stelvio Plus

I have only about 700 miles on on the rear. I recommend it if you have the skrilla. They wear out faster because they are made with a softer racing compound.
The Plus is a safe guard that prevents glass and such from getting through. I have actually had more flats with it than usual, but what's going to stop a nail?

Mr Tuffy will put the protein on any rubber

SOMA everwear

i have some 26c soma everwear tires. they last pretty well and seem to have good traction @ 120 psi. i've had them for about 4 months, and i skid alot. the back tire still has alot of life in it. granted, they cost 80 bucks for a set, so they better last twice as long as a regular tire!

Soma Everwear

I've got 26's on my univega and i feel like god hugging corners on the trail with those things. i can take them up to 130 on the street and not get my shoulders jarred loose. they hold up great; i skid fairly often and have yet to find any flat spots. cool colors, too!

But if you wanna rolllllll....

So I had these Rubino Pros for a hot minute. Nice tire. Seem pretty durable. No big deal. Before that I was pretty set with Continentals or Serfas. Both solid as a rock.
The other day though I bought a set of Vredstein Fortezza Tricomps and sweet jesus what a difference!!! Man these tires are smooth. Got em pumped up to 145psi and it's so very on. They hug the road like a koala bear does a bamboo tree. Of course they're racing tires so who knows how many skids it's gonna take to get through that rubber but if they last even 800 miles it'll be well worth it.
I love them and I love everybody riding on them.
Shit, I've even patched things up with my long lost father because of these tires.

Hey, does this rag smell like chloroform to you?

koalas hug eucalyptus trees.

koalas hug eucalyptus trees.

...

See that's what I'm sayin. If koalas lived in Japan and hugged bamboo trees and raced in Keirin championships on little koalasawa bikes THAT's how sweet these tires are.

You kids and your "facts", I swear... :)

hey just tryin to help you

hey just tryin to help you out a little. and for the record, i run the rubino pro's also. they were 50% off on nashbar.com.. probably still are. i've got no complaints about them.

...

Haha for sure. I'm just half stupid is all. I kept my Rubinos for when these Vredsteins burn through. Fun to be fancy for now though :)

Randos...

Just moved over from 23 skinnys to Vittoria Randonneurs in a 28 for the winter. Much smoother ride on the bigger rubber, no slower, grip better - especially in the wet, don't pickup glass shards from lousily maintained bike lanes and have double/kevlar or something belts.

I ride fixed, mostly commute/urban and wanted something that would last.

Continental Gator Skins!

Continental Gator Skins! They have awesome traction, and they have lasted through way more skidding than other tires I've tried (Kenda Kontendors, Bontrager Race Lite Hard Cases, Kenda Koncepts).

BMX TIME

For BMX if you like to ride trails
and other dirt areas
id suggest
the primo dirt monster
and the Demolition Baja tires
they both are great
i know for a fact that the primo DM is a 60psi
and i cannot remember what the Baja is
both have superior grip and work superior in the dirt
buy up

23 or 25

so im looking into new tires, and was contemplating getting a 25 for the rear. Im roughly 200pds and a ride in a city full of potholes, so I see how it could help. Any recommendations? im trying to keep it clean without massive treads. Thats another thing, hows the Rubinho Slick compare to treaded tires...in the rain that is.

Vittoria Rubino Pro with

Vittoria Rubino Pro with kevlar 700x23. Ridden them fixed for a year and a half, skidded/skipped alot, still holding up great. Only had one or two puncture flats

i rode forever on a

i rode forever on a specialized all condition armadillo, skidding and skipping all over the place. really liked it. i recently replaced it w/ an old kenda that i have lying around, which i imagine will last about a quarter of the time; when that goes, i'm replacing it w/ a contintental ultra gatorskin; right now, i have one on the front and i love it. i've heard they're about equivalent to the specialized armadillos, for roughly the same price.

I agree. Great tire! Ride

I agree. Great tire! Ride 'em on the road. (But I will try the new Conti GP 4000 "black chili" next. Because it's said to be much better than the "old" 4000.) Use GP Supersonic on the track.
